Available Grants at Yale University

At Yale University, grants and scholarships are encouraged instead of student loans. The Ivy League university actually offers the Yale Student Loan only to students who are in really dire financial need and whose scholarships, jobs and grants have not been able to fill the need fully.

In the university, financial need’s formula is the difference between total expenses and family contribution. Total expenses can amount to more than $50,000 a year. So, families with household incomes of $60,000 or less will have lots of trouble diminishing the difference. Financial need will then be higher. Parent or family contribution refers to the money that the family can afford to set aside for Yale expenses annually. This is usually 1 to 10% for families with incomes more than $60,000 but less than $120,000. Those with $120,000 as household income must contribute 10%. The family contribution also includes summer job or on campus job earnings by the student. With a family struggling to get by, a grant especially a big one, can truly turn things around. Families with income of less than $45,000 do not need to contribute. Those with incomes from $45,000 to $60,000 have reduced contributions. Families with more than one child in college can expect more grants, regardless of what the household income is like.

Grants for Yale students

Grants can help the student avoid financial distress even after graduation. Yale offers grants to students according to their financial need. Students who have applied for the grants may be awarded, through the contributions of generous alumni and other private donors. For students who have not been given a grant through Yale, they can still look for federal and state grants. One popular grant is the Pell Grant, which is offered by the federal government.

It certainly would be great if grants can cover all your expenses during your stay at Yale University. Grants are excellent because they can be given without any regard for genius IQs and high powered grades. You also do not have to pay them back.
